Appartenant au mouvement pictural japonais : le Mono-ha, qui s’intéresse à la pauvreté des matériaux, Lee UFan va élaborer un geste qui sera répété avec beaucoup de respect, de retenue et d’économie de moyens.
Ici, il utilise une brosse qui est chargée d’un pigment minéral orange, rare dans ses œuvres, mélangé à une colle animale.
Ce pigment minéral va être accumulé sur la brosse et il va l’apposer en formant le premier point, très chargé en matière, sur la toile. Sans recharger le pinceau, il va poser le second point et les suivants jusqu’à épuisement de ce pigment.
